Description:
From what I can tell, this is the exact same model as the Universal 39. My guess is that Adler marketed the same machine as "39" in the United States and "40" in Europe. If you're looking for a solid and pretty standard, you can't go wrong with this machine. The touch is just right (not too heavy, not too light) and the paper injection lever becomes something you miss when you go back to typing with portables. The 39/40 definitely has the best design of any of the models in the Universal series. And yes, if you get one of these, make sure to regularly type "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." I do and it scares my wife to no end.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Adler Universal 40 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Adler Serial Number page and the Adler Universal 40 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
