Description:
Nickname "Chase"
Currently my only electric-assist basket-typebar machine, Chase is a great representation of the beauty of electric typewriters that are not IBM Selectrics. These machines are known to have problems with their belts but this particular machine seems to be fine with its belts at the moment. The original belts are no longer made, so o-rings have been identified as a workable substitute and I have a set on hand for when the original belts finally give out. These electric machines followed a numbering convention, the first "1" in "110" means that it is a manual, not a power return machine so has the long metal carriage return lever on the left side. Were the first digit a "2" that would indicate it is a power carriage return with an extra power return key on the keyboard and no metal lever. The second "1" in the name means that it is a standard 10-inch carriage. A "2" would indicate a wide-carriage machine. I was told I might want to consider getting a 120 instead of the 110 to allow me to load full-size envelopes but I don't care for the larger case that comes with the wide carriage and I find a #10 envelope just fits in the 110. Chase does have power repeating X, - and . keys which I sometimes trigger accidentally. Otherwise it is very nice to type and have every character come out the same as the last.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. My machines range from 1947 to 1973 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
