Description:
One of the first portables in my collection. I believe it’s more form over function. While I love the mid-century elegant look and blue and cream color scheme, it’s not my favorite to type on. Speed typing doesn’t like this machine. Ribbon cover is finicky too. If not seated correctly, some of the key bars will strike the cover on their way up. It’s good for display and light use but not for long writing sessions in my opinion.

I grew up with a fascination and deep appreciation for mechanical business machines. Mid-century typewriters, cash registers and adding machines. To appreciate the magic of these devices and the synergy of gears, springs and levers working together in perfect harmony is quite beautiful and an understated marvel of engineering and quality workmanship that has produced products that work exactly as intended for decades and even a century after they were produced. This is something that doesn’t exist in today’s world. My small collection (currently 14) consists of mainly portables, ultra-portables and a few Smith Corona 6 series electrics, which I use for amateur writing projects.
