Description:
Nickname "Zeus"
Purchased on eBay. This is my youngest typewriter as I fall out of love with machines that were built in the 70's or later, they just aren't as good IMO. It was missing both platen knobs when I bought it so I purchased 3D printed replacements that seem to work fine. I will keep an eye out for factory original replacement platen knobs in the future. S7 Elite typeface. As Hermes is famous for, the action on this machine is indeed best described as "buttery." It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy it a great deal. So far, this is the only machine that has not needed any service or adjustments, other than the missing platen knobs it has worked perfectly from go. Tom Hanks has an almost identical machine to this one that he posted on Instagram from the Dodgers (cough-cough, go padres!) Opening Day. I believe this makes us typewriter twins with all the rights and privileges that entails.

Big fan, Mr. Hanks, thank you for inspiring me to get into vintage manual typewriters, I am having a blast.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. I currently have 9 machines, 2 ultraportables (a Hermes Baby Spanish keyboard and Hermes Rocket), 4 medium portables (an SM3, an S/C Silent and Silent Super and a Hermes 3000), and 3 desk standards (an SG1, Royal HH and S/C Super Speed). My machines range from 1947 to 1968 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I look forward to putting together my galleries for all 9 machines. I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
