Description:
This typewriter has almost all its keys in Katakana, one of the three Japanese 'alphabets". However, if you notice, there are about three keys that have remnants of old tape adhesive on them. That is because, if you notice the typeface, there are actually three letters there from the Western alphabet: W, X and H. and I think the original owner put a marker on each of the keys to remind him or her of these three wayward keys that clearly do not belong. Was this a factory mistake? Hmmmm.

I'm an archaeologist who writes heritage books and collects Japanese ceramics as well as quite a number of typewriters that I've acquired through purchase or as gifts over the last 10 years in the Philippines as well as in the US and Japan.
I'm currently a visiting professor at a university in Japan and it is heaven here to see so many typewriters being auctioned online!
