1967 Webster (Brother) XL-500 Serial # M7797907 1967 Webster (Brother) XL-500 typewriter, Serial # M7797907 James Grooms's 1967 Webster (Brother) XL-500 typewriter. 2026-06-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of James Grooms: 1967 Webster (Brother) XL-500 Serial # M7797907 This one was banged around a bit, but it cleaned up. It had a price tag residue on the cover. Once that was cleaned up, the ink had stained it with "16.99." The cover here came off another machine. The case zip was good and I did some repair to the hinge and where the lower base had the start of a hole punched into it.

My cover grommets fit the pegs, but not the hole. So I hot-glued them in place from the underside, and it appears this will work. My feet are a thick yoga mat. I did not use the washer with the screw. They are hot-glued in place with the black stuff. If you have to get the lower cover off, they will peel off. At the same time, they are not coming off under normal use. They are grippy!!!

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
