1967 Smith Corona Super Sterling Serial # 6SS-220380 1967 Smith Corona Super Sterling typewriter, Serial # 6SS-220380 GK Mandigo's 1967 Smith Corona Super Sterling typewriter. 2025-08-05 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of GK Mandigo: 1967 Smith Corona Super Sterling Serial # 6SS-220380 Nickname "Lawrence"
Purchased for $40 while at a cabin on the St. Lawrence River, to me this machine represents the culmination of decades of refinements of typewriter engineering and manufacture into its most advanced form before beginning a slow decline in coming years as the emphasis stopped being building the best typewriter to instead building a more profitable typewriter to stay alive in a changing market. I would describe the color as "blue-grey" with a smooth finish with white keys and 10 cpi Pica typeface. It is a very handsome machine that only needed a light segment flush to operate at its best. It even came with a few bonus index cards that give a glimpse of its earlier life in corporate America. Apparently there was not any overtime worked in November. I love the fact that there was a time and place where the state of the art was to type information on index cards. Truly an analog world.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. My machines range from 1947 to 1969 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
