1967 Hermes Baby Serial # 9026229 1967 Hermes Baby typewriter, Serial # 9026229 Dimitris Nikou's 1967 Hermes Baby typewriter. 2020-09-09 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Dimitris Nikou: 1967 Hermes Baby Serial # 9026229 Typewriter #11

Hermes Baby with Greek keyboard, made in West Germany in 1967. It's the second Hermes Baby of my collection and I found it at a flea market.

I am very sad with this typewriter because while the mechanism is still alive and strong, the frame and the cover has been alomost damaged. I can tell that this Hermes has been stored and treated very badly and it's really a shame. As you can see in the pictures below, the frame is bent, decolorised and it doesn't even clip correctly with the machine anymore. And the cover... simply awful. Only the keys are left to show something of the iconic design and color of these machines. The mechanics are in good condition except of the loose paper bail and the missing right platen knob. Only a deeper cleaning is required which I will not do now because I don't intend to use it regularly.

I really don't know what to do with this typewriter. I think that it would be great for someone that can create a custom frame for it, as a special project.

Writer and blogger from Athens, Greece. I own a small collection of typewriters, most of my machines are functional and I try to repair any with problems that keeps it from typing. For me, it is important for a typewriter not just to sit on a shelve for display, but to be able to type when I want to. On the links below you will find my blogs and social media profiles. Feel free to follow me and get in touch if you want. I am always happy to communicate :)

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes Baby on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes Baby By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
