Description:
I’ve wanted one of these since seeing the late Sam Shepard use his in California Typewriter and describe it, “as good as it gets”. One finally made its way to me and I couldn’t be happier. Yes, it suffered the Achilles’ heel of a broken platen knob - but that’s where good friends step in (without having even needing to be asked) and send over a 3D printed replacement or two. The transplant was successful, with the help of some PTFE tape, and I seem to be writing letters willy-nilly just to use it. To me, there’s no difference in the typing action & feel between this and the Mk1. This Mk2 is just as effortless, delicious, and precise with that characteristic Hermes thwick-thwick-thwick sound when in use. The sound kind of reminds me of a Hollywood movie silencer gunshot.
Its previous owner (RIP 2016) was named Gertrude so I have kept my tradition and passed on the name to the machine.

My first machine was an Everest Mod 90 that I bought after watching the Violet Evergarden anime in December 2021. My addiction/collection began then and now consists of 40 machines.
My absolute favourite remains (just) my 1939 Royal KMM. For me, it's both the prettiest and the "warmest" to type on. It has "Majik" ( a nod to Sandy1)
I count my blessings that I am lucky enough to have amassed such a beautiful bunch.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
