Description:
Early production (low serial number, has same carriage return arm of preceding Royal Empress model) Royal 440 in office beige, found and bought 18 October 2017 at Pennies For Change in Durham, NC. It needs to be cleaned and to have a few minor mechanical adjustments (it sometimes advances an extra space after a keystroke; the hammers seem to be double-striking, although sometimes that is the typist's (my) fault).

Having grown up and aged in the Digital Era, I should be as enamored of computers and cell phones and the Internet as are my peers; instead, I have grown weary of digital technologies. And that is why I joined this site, in my effort to locate a functional and useful manual typewriter for correspondance. I also am interested in film photography, among many other interests. I have a degree in Anthropology, which is humorous because I am a misanthrope. I suppose I should also add that, if memory serves me, I learned to type in a high school typing course on some kind of IBM Selectric.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 440 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 440 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
