1966 Olympia SM9 Serial # 2939996 1966 Olympia SM9 typewriter, Serial # 2939996 GK Mandigo's 1966 Olympia SM9 typewriter. 2025-09-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of GK Mandigo: 1966 Olympia SM9 Serial # 2939996 Nickname "Carol"
Another typewriter that is named after its original owner. Carol Susterka was born June 26, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. She was married to Everett Peterson and lived in Manistique, Michigan until her passing on August 24, 2024. This was her typewriter. I think this highlights the fact that these machines were so well built that they have outlived their original owners. Carol the typewriter works perfectly, something that SM9's are known for. 10 cpi typeface, the slugs are marked "97/66". White body and keys with turquoise shift keys and platen knob caps, the carriage caps are still the chrome finish of the older SM machines, not painted metal like later machines. Although the typewriter is in excellent condition, the case is another story. It is structurally sound but will need a thorough cleaning and someone has jimmied the lock which is slightly deformed. The case is still marked with a Dymo tape with its owners name.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. My machines range from 1947 to 1973 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
