Description:
This machine was quite clean but had an odd problem — there was no clicking when the platen was turned. The line space mechanism worked fine though. It turned out a tiny rod in a pawl that engaged the toothed wheel on the platen had come out of place. Removing the pawl and its spring, repositioning the rod and securing the rod in place with an e clip (the original one apparently had come out and gotten lost) fixed the problem, but was a fiddly job.. Serial number 658330 (1966). Made in Barcelona, Spain.

I have collected typewriters since the early 1970s. My first collectible machine was a Mignon, but I also had everyday typers then, first a Voss ST-24 and an Olivetti Praxis 48, and then a Hermes 3000 and a Hermes 10. Over the last decade or so, I've turned my focus from early machines (Lambert, Blickensderfer, Hammond, Smith-Premier, etc.) to portables.
Besides typewriters, I also collect staplers and other paper fasteners. In addition, I am a Studebaker car enthusiast, and have had a 1964 Studebaker GT Hawk since 1979.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti-Underwood 21 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti-Underwood Serial Number page and the Olivetti-Underwood 21 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
