1965 Underwood Touchmaster Five Serial # 11-9670607 1965 Underwood Touchmaster Five typewriter, Serial # 11-9670607 Clark Hinson's 1965 Underwood Touchmaster Five typewriter. 2015-11-15 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Clark Hinson: 1965 Underwood Touchmaster Five Serial # 11-9670607 This is a machine I got along with the truckload of Selectrics. It had been stored poorly and mildewed. I cleaned it up, unstuck the keys with solvent and perseverance. After polishing up the chrome and aluminum and the paint and keys, it turned out really nice. It's a great typer and has all of the features you could want, including adjustable key resistance, manual and automatic ribbon reverse, great tabulator functions, 1, 2 or 3 line spacing, platen detent release, up-front margin slides and more. This machine has a 10-character per inch pica roman font. Built towards the end of 1965, it was one of the last true Underwoods. It's design similarities can be traced all the way back to the 1920's with a cast iron frame. It's a very fine machine.

I love mechanical things and have tinkered with manual and electric typewriters since my teens. I have always been fascinated by the IBM Selectric, but it was later in life that I finally got my hands on one to explore. I learned to repair/restore them and suddenly I have several of them. I don't really consider myself a collector, but rather a restorer. I enjoy bringing old machines back to usable condition and then pass them on to other people to use and enjoy.
