1965 Smith Corona Galaxie II Serial # 6T2-169720 1965 Smith Corona Galaxie II typewriter, Serial # 6T2-169720 Roger C's 1965 Smith Corona Galaxie II typewriter. 2025-10-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Roger C: 1965 Smith Corona Galaxie II Serial # 6T2-169720 A mid-60s Smith-Corona Galaxie II, in goldy tan/cream tones, including the olive green-yellow platen. Generally in good shape, although it suffers from the classic carriage-release breakage. The pieces of one of the levers is still in the hard case so I may try to patch it back up, but it's not really a usability issue.

The one weird thing on this one is that it has the usual 3-detente dual-ribbon colour selector lever, but it's in Artistic 75SR typeface. Machines with that typeface usually supported only monochrome ribbons, as some of the letters (C, E, etc) are quite large (see #6T2-144125 or #157386 on this site for an example, or for another conversion, see #6J2-193458) and tend to pick up the other colour at their extremities. Although if you closely-examine the typeface sample, it is barely a concern.

I can only guess at some point a previous owner brought in their standard machine and had the typeface changed to Artistic. They did a nice job of it.
