Description:
The Smith Corona Classic built circa 1965.
All metal construction. Smooth exterior finish with some texture. Color is muted but enough hue to stand out amongst the typical range.
The chromium accents and silver plated front gives this typewriter a certain charm that fits more in the 1950s era than the 60s.
The construction is solid, with thoughtful design that caters towards the servicemen of the time. Easy to disassemble. The platen was even designed to feature a method of easy release to be able to be swapped out with platens of different material. Also makes for easy access to under the platen to clean and service.
The paper holder is smooth and elegant to use , with the cover on which it sits is easy to push back to gain access to the tabulator stops and general carriage cleaning.
The typing on this is magnificent. The typebars bounce with a punch and the noise of the typebar hitting the platen is well tuned to nostalgic 60s office ambiance. Classic font.
------------------------------------------
This typewriter came with a few issues. The typebars were completely gummed up with my suspicion WD40 was applied at some point in its past. The qp alignment was off, and the paper feed rollers under the platen had shrunk enough to make it difficult to easily feed paper. After a couple weeks of a near complete tear down and a clean it was back to typing like it was new!
Thanks for reading. Photography done by me.

I am collector of many things...first Vinyl, then film cameras, ephemera, antiques and the like. However, typewriters were always on my horizon but never a reality until I ran across a Smith Corona Coronet Electric 10. The mechanics and reparability of these machines fascinated me...leading me to know I next needed a manual typewriter. I found a local lady selling a Remington 1040 and took it home to service to find out it had a script type font. Wonderful! But then I needed a manual typewriter with regular font...next was eBay with a well priced Smith Corona Classic. Another 60s typewriter...next up is a pre 1950s typewriter and I'll let you know when I find that one!
