1965 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3309143 1965 Hermes 3000 typewriter, Serial # 3309143 Ryan Smith's 1965 Hermes 3000 typewriter. 2023-12-15 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Ryan Smith: 1965 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3309143 Found this in a local junk shop and picked it up earlier today (Dec. 15, 2023). I haven't yet cleaned it in these photos -- the condition you see here is the condition in which I found it. Works perfectly, and, if a slip of paper in the case was any indication, one belonged to an Army captain. I believe I may have even tracked down the specific person, who passed away in 2010 and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

Found this in a local junk shop and picked it up earlier today (Dec. 15, 2023). I haven't yet cleaned it in these photos -- the condition you see here is the condition in which I found it. Works perfectly, and, if a slip of paper in the case was any indication, one belonged to an Army captain. No manual, unfortunately. The case contained a few sheets of carbon paper and this intriguing note about a "Capt. Wayne Duncan." Fits the time period, as APO San Francisco 96307 was the Air Force post office for Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam.

Note found in the case. I'm not up on Vietnam-era acronyms, but from my own miilitary days, I recognize "AG" as "Adjutant General" and "ASD" as "Administrative Services Division." My guess is "RV" is "Republic of Vietnam," and this guy worked at the AG's office at the army's headquarters in Vietnam during the war.

I'm a fan of mid-century modern design and analogue processes. I already have a couple of old Bell telephones, a collection of 1960s-vintage vinyl records, and a much-too-big collection of film cameras (both still and 16mm/8mm/Super 8) spanning from 1925 to circa 1982, but concentrating on about 1947-1960. And now I'm adding typewriters.
