Description:
A snappy Czechoslovak ultraportable that does what it's designed to do. I like the "paper bottom edge marker." This is the set of measurements painted in white and red between the rubber and gear on the left-hand side of the platen. With one glance, you see how far down the page you've progressed. It's a neat feature you wouldn't expect on an ultraportable.
The keys and plastic "Consul" logo look and feel a bit cheap. But other than that, it's design and mechanics are solid. The clean lines and grey/light-grey finish are pleasing on the eye. It looks like the kind of typewriter a classy dissident might have used to write subversive political essays in his stuffy Prague apartment circa 1966. My 232 came with a cream-colored faux leather transport bag, which is definitely one of the more elegant typewriter bags I've seen.
