Description:
A Smith-Corona Galaxie typewriter. This is a series 6 typewriter (the numbering of a given series beginning in ~1935 with the SC Standard 1C--units made prior to that point had no prefix.) This is close to the final design for the mechanics of the Smith-Corona internals. The electric models use this as a foundation and simply add a set of cams and trip levers to provide the motive force for the type bars.
This particular unit has a grey body and ribbon cover along with a sort of a cream plastic keyboard cover and key caps. The case is an aluminum case with the top and bottom covered with what I would call a "charcoal heather" colored material. It's a fine typewriter, but did suffer a bit from time and carelessness. It's a very comfortable typewriter to use and well recommended for those wanting a work unit.

Collector of several things, including typewriters, slide rules, and mechanical calculators.
Started collecting typewriters in 2023 with a Royal HHE like the one I did my first book report on when I was in school and using my dad's old typewriter.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Galaxie on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Galaxie By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
