Description:
Smith Corona Corsair, serial number 5Y151528. Obtained from Flea Word in May 2015. This is my 22nd typewriter.
This is one of the first generation Corsairs. It is basically a Skyriter with a tabulator in a plastic shell. The mechanicals of this typewriter--right down to the touch regulator under the ribbon cover--are very similar to my 1959 Skyriter. From design/patent documents and advertisements, I figure this machine came out in 1964 or 1965 given the white Margin Release, Tab, and Backspace keys (1966-67 models had red keys and the LMH touch regulator by the left shift key).
