1964 Smith Corona 75 Serial # 75E 12-6156619G 1964 Smith Corona 75 typewriter, Serial # 75E 12-6156619G Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1964 Smith Corona 75 typewriter. 2018-03-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1964 Smith Corona 75 Serial # 75E 12-6156619G I bought this Smith-Corona 75/E a few years ago at a junk store for a few dollars because it was a rather unusual model, and as it turns out Smith-Corona's very last standard model. The typewriter has clearly seen significant use as cosmetically the typewriter is strained. The paint is definitely worn, and the mechanism does feel like a lot of keys were hit over the years. However, mechanically the machine has been very well designed, and surprisingly the typewriter is of high quality, even though it was manufactured during a period where the electric typewriter would soon thrive. The machine is missing one of it's margin button covers, but other than that everything is there. The escapement silencer has broken once again (4 times since I owned it) and it is frustrating me to the point I don't like using the machine as much anymore, as it requires a painful ordeal to fix. The silencer disengages the escapement from the carriage rails when returning the carriage to reduce wear and noise. The machine did come with original Smith-Corona spools, so the owners kept faithful to that. And looking at the condition that I found it in, I would say the machine did receive regular service as it was very clean inside. Overall, for the money, not a bad work-horse.
