Description:
Purchased from thrift store. Internals were full of a thick oil and some corrosive effect of glue that deteriorated on the typebar rest that apparently oozed out and even got on the top ribbon cover somehow. Apparently a fairly common problem. Initially I thought is was from a Coke spill but will not clean off. This is the 1st year Olympia made an SM model with basket shift and a turquoise emblem. By design, it has just the RT carriage release lever...I miss the left lever. While not labeled "Deluxe" as later models were, there is brochure that says this model is Deluxe too. The print quality is the best of all the typewriters in my collection. A brochure says the typeface is International Modern Pica.

Retired. Have been a Photography geek for many years...old school film. Also have been an audiophile and have been collecting vinyl before it became fashionable. Accidently(?) began collecting typewriters in the early1980's...I had four by 2006. After I inherited my mothers Hermes 3000 in 2017 my interest really took off and now I have 28 typewriters in total. The majority of my collection are Smith Corona's largely because they are plentiful, easy to work on and are very good typers.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
