Description:
German keyboard layout. Found in a thrift store in a small town. Only problem was two slugs had been broken off and I was able to replace the typebars from a parts SF that I had bought 13 years earlier for $2. See, it all works out.
I also have a ‘65 with English keyboard and there are some interesting differences: the earlier German keyboard has a shorter carriage return lever and a thicker DIN 2103 spool spindle.
My sample is too small to know whether these differences are market based or model-year based or customer options.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SF on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SF By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
