Description:
Purchased from TB Writers Plus in Dayton, OH
Everytime I found a Hermes in my area - 3000, 2000, Baby, etc. - they were always overpriced and heavily damaged. I'm capable of some repairs and general cleanup, but I'm not about to drop the price of a functional typewriter on a wrecked one, even if it's a 2000 that's 10 minutes from me. I'm not. The 3000s are the rarest to pop up, even in the far reaches of the state, and they're always in terrible shape when they do. When I saw this one come up for sale, I barely hesitated. I'm so very glad I didn't.
The seller told me he found this one acting as a jack for a lawnmower in a garage. The case was bent and he had to reshape it, you can still see some creases in the bottom plate, but overall... it's great for its age. I'm never expecting pristine, but it types like an absolute dream. Thoroughly cleaned and ready to go. I adore it. Worth every penny to me, and far and away my most expensive typer. That said... it has been really nice to get a ready-to-go typewriter and not have to do cleanup and repair myself. It was a nice treat yourself moment.

I am quite new to the typewriter world (first bought 6/2023), but I sort of jumped right in with three typewriters in my first week. I am interested in the mechanics of manual typewriters, as well as have an affinity for cleaning up long-forgotten gems. I'm a Smith-Corona fiend, but any nice typewriter will do!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
