Description:
The serial number records here peter out at 1962, but it looks like that would be the correct year.
This is a good example of an early Galaxie. The opening in the ribbon cover is smaller than on later versions (so the clearance is very tight for the typebars on either end; if they are hitting the ribbon cover, you can bend the cover up a bit).
The SCM logo consists of three separate plastic parallelograms.
Fancy paper bail with scale and tiny rollers.
44 keys.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Galaxie on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Galaxie By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
