Description:
Yard sale. The thing was in the case upside down and the mechanism was covered with a very sticky dark brown viscous material that I'm afraid to find out what it is. I think it'll clean up OK; after all, it's an Olympia.
Update: It did clean up very well cosmetically; the mechanism still is very sticky; I think eventually it will work fine.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM7 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM7 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
