1963 Brother Valiant Serial # A315B324 1963 Brother Valiant typewriter, Serial # A315B324 Scott O's 1963 Brother Valiant typewriter. 2015-11-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Scott O: 1963 Brother Valiant Serial # A315B324 I have a thing for ultra-portables and couldn't pass up this Brother Valiant at an antique mall in Olympia, WA.

It needed some TLC - the carriage and space bar weren't working properly and the ribbon cover wouldn't snap into place. I took it apart and cleared the carriage of old debris, refit the space bar into place and replaced the grommets on the ribbon cover. It's amazing how much stuff accumulates when there is a bottom panel on a typewriter! Cosmetically there's some wear to the paint in the front corners and along the right side, but overall it's in nice shape.

Typing action is decent for an ultra-portable, similar to a Hermes Rocket but made with lighter-grade materials. I wouldn't write a novel with it (but others have); it's a solid choice for for personal correspondence, journal entries and poetry. It's reasonably light and easy to pack for travel.
