This is not a rebranding, no, this is the end of the line for the Rheinmetall KsT. By 1962, the Rheinmetall and Supermetall names were replaced with Soemtron, a new brand created by VEB Büromaschinenwerk Sömmerda to reflect the focus on electronic calculators.
I hold this typewriter in very high esteem; it's an outstanding example of design, and of course, great to type with.

I started collecting typewriters in 2006, but what started it all was using my mother's Brother Student-Riter XL1 in 2004. The next year I received my grandma's Smith-Corona Silent, which was enough to hold me over for a little while but eventually led to an obsession with manual portable typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Soemtron KsT on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Soemtron Serial Number page and the Soemtron KsT By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
