I picked up this Hermes 3000 in pretty rough condition from an antique store a few weeks ago. It had numerous problems and was filthy. I stripped it down in order to clean it, and found two pennies (from 1973 and 1978) and a safety pin inside it, along with the strategic cat hair and eraser shaving reserve stockpile. While I had it naked I blasted as much stuff out of it with compressed air as possible, and flushed the segment, and I degreased and cleaned the outer shell pieces while they were off the machine too, making them look a LOT better in the process. One of the springs that makes the automatic ribbon reverse work also needed to be replaced as it was badly stretched out.
This machine is now a working typewriter, with the only real issue I can observe being that the carriage silent return doesn't work, so you hear it ratchet every time you return the carriage.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
