1961 Triumph Gabriele Serial # 1706707 1961 Triumph Gabriele typewriter, Serial # 1706707 Laurenz van Gaalen's 1961 Triumph Gabriele typewriter. 2026-01-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Laurenz van Gaalen: 1961 Triumph Gabriele Serial # 1706707 Fourth iteration of the Gabriele. Compared to its predecessor it has a new body and new keys (without texture), but it lacks the margin scale.

Three notes:

1) I used ID 5xOD 10mm NBR rubber hose to replace the old, hardened rubber plugs that keep the machine attached to the case base. Unfortunately, the rubber needs time to decompress. This means that after flipping the latches, I have to wait a couple of minutes before I can get the machine off the case base.

2) This Gabriele has the old ribbon drive system. The new system with the modular (and with the Tippa interchangable) drives was introduced around 1962. I think that the new drive system is responsible for the superb typing action that is so characteristic for the last generation of Triumph carriage shifted portables.

3) Production year is an educated guess.

I live in The Netherlands.
Most common typewriter brands over here are Triumph/Adler, Olympia, Erika, Olivetti, Remington and Brother.
I collect and restore typewriters to learn about their design and to write with them.
