Description:
Easily the least "previously used" typewriter I've ever bought. Almost mint in its condition. Very lucky.
Bought to replace my 1961 Bluebird 18b that's soon on its way to a friend. The sale was going to leave a hole that just had to be filled.
This is just as beautiful to type on as the 18b and I think it looks nicer too. Sadly plastic has entered the manufacturing arena and the ribbon cover and a few other little bits and bobs are now plastic instead of metal. Makes ZERO difference to the feel and sound of the machine. It's every bit as gorgeous to use.
I will live in constant fear that the teensy tiny little plastic locating lug on the ribbon cover will snap off. Until that day comes, I will enjoy every second of this gem and can highly recommend them. My photos don't do it justice. It has a real presence.
*I've never seen Blue Bird AND Torpedo logos used on the same machine before.

Relatively new to the hobby - My first machine was an Everest Mod 90 that I bought after watching a Violet Evergarden anime in December 2021.
My collection now consists of a nice, round, 40 machines . . . and any new addition will be on a strict "one in - one out" basis.
My absolute favourite remains (just) my 1939 Royal KMM. For me, it's both the prettiest and the "warmest" to type on. It has "Majik" (with a nod to Sandy1)
I count my blessings that I am lucky enough to have amassed such a beautiful bunch.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Torpedo 18s on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Torpedo Serial Number page and the Torpedo 18s By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
