Description:
Smith Corona Sterling
This one was built in 1961 according to the list. Missing case, and the plastic insert for the logo on the ribbon cover. Unlike my other 5-series Smith Corona portables, this one is in pica 10cpi typeface. It is different than the pica typeface found on my later Galaxie Twelve.
Had to blow out a lot of cat hair and what appears to be potpourri. Otherwise, the usual sticky typebars that responded to mineral spirits.
Acquired from a woman in Nyack, NY, who was moving.

Relatively new to collecting. Would like to document my collection.
Planning on sticking to full-sized American machines so I don't spend too much on fancy European portables.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Sterling on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Sterling By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
