Description:
It works well because somebody had already replaced the original collapsed rubber spacing/isolating washers between the frame and the body, although he did replace one---only one---with a 1/4-20 nut.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
