Description:
Date of Purchase: 04/28/2025
Place of Purchase: Haar's Auction in Dillsburg, PA
My friend texted a photo from a small family-owned auction house in our area. Although my typewriter budget had taken a recent hit — and against better judgment — I couldn’t resist tagging along to the weekly auction because of something I saw in his picture.
Based on other entries in the Typewriter Database featuring the '1' key, I suspected this typewriter might have a script typeface. Seeing this typewriter in person provided the confirmation I needed – script typeface on a 1962 Olympia SF De Luxe (SN 95-577673).
A few bids later, I walked away the proud new owner. I’ve since learned the typeface is called: Script No. 69 (11 Pitch). The machine itself is remarkably well-preserved – it just needed some eraser shavings blown out of it. Once I install a fresh ribbon, it'll be ready for daily use. The only issue is one half of the zipper has separated from the case, but that's a problem to solve later.
Despite my efforts to curb typewriter spending, I couldn’t pass up on this beauty, and I’m glad to add it to my growing Olympia collection.

With nearly three decades in information technology and over twenty years specializing in cybersecurity, I bring a unique perspective to typewriter collecting that bridges the digital and mechanical worlds. As the son of a farmer-turned-chemical engineer, I inherited both my father's hands-on problem-solving mindset and his deep curiosity about how things work.
Growing up under his guidance, I learned to build, repair, and tinker. This experience gave me a lasting appreciation for mechanical ingenuity and ultimately led me to typewriters. I'm fascinated by their intricate mechanisms and rich history, and by the role these remarkable machines played in transforming human communication long before the digital era.
When not working on typewriters, I love working with my hands on various projects: building custom mechanical keyboards, creating miniatures, building furniture, or other hands-on creative work that captures my attention.
Based in Central Pennsylvania less than 10 miles from the famous Olivetti-Underwood Factory in Harrisburg, PA, I've found the region to be a fruitful source of vintage machines - and so my collection keeps growing.
