1961 Hermes 8 Serial # 8073259 1961 Hermes 8 typewriter, Serial # 8073259 Geir Kihle Hanssen's 1961 Hermes 8 typewriter. 2021-09-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Geir Kihle Hanssen: 1961 Hermes 8 Serial # 8073259 A Hermes 8 Standard that I got for free from a lady who just wanted to declutter her house. It needed cleaning, but nothing major. No rust, just some old oil grime. Took off the case and vacumed off dust, cleaned off some grime and probably old glue that seeped to the bottom of the machine. Cleaned the case, but as with most of these Hermes post 60s, the paint is fragile so a bit of it rubbed off. The machine is cleaner and nicer now, but also a slight shade lighter than original. Machine has the classic pica typeface with Norwegian keys.

I am a Norwegian fellow who enjoys tinkering and fixing up typewriters. One day I decided I wanted a typewriter to write letters on. I bought one that turned out not to work. I got annoyed and decided I should be able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I did it, but the rush of successfully mending such an intricate machine was like a drug. I wanted more. I decided I would try to buy non-functioning, but pretty machines, fix them and sell them before repeating the process. What I didn't expect was that I would fall in love with the machines I fix so now I suddenly find myself a bit of a collector.
