1961 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3081025 1961 Hermes 3000 typewriter, Serial # 3081025 F N's 1961 Hermes 3000 typewriter. 2026-09-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of F N: 1961 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3081025 Bought in Utrecht, 2022, for 55 euro. Used in a primary school. At some point in its history, the key of the case was lost and they tried to force it out of its case, damaging the machine. I bought a Hermes Media and used the body panels to replace the damaged ones. They seemed identical at first, but apparantly, the panels I used are more glossy than the original (damaged) panels of the Hermes 3000. They have some kind of very light texture in the paint. So, the ribbon cover is now less glossy than the rest, but it is hardly noticable. I also replaced the damaged spacebar with that of the Media.
I let AKB Longs renew the rubber on my platen. It works like a charm and is my favorite typer. I managed to get the platen and carriage off myself and make it run smoother.
I still intend to replace the red ribbon to indicate the margins. The margin set mechanism itself works just fine. I bought a 3rd gen Hermes to "borrow" the red ribbon, but it's a wide carriage model, so I don't think that will fit. Or will it? Leave a comment to give me some advice.
