Description:
This is a Smith-Corona 5-series, made for the Sears “Tower†brand. I had thought that this brand was in honor of the famous Sears Tower in Chicago but this typewriter was made many years before the tower was. Must be something else going on.
It came in a nifty, snappy pressed steel Holiday case in a cream tweed pattern that is a nice change from the darker S-C versions. The typewriter works well, as usual, and all-in-all this is a nice package.
Be sure to read the note about the atomic logo, below.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Tower Tabulator on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Tower Serial Number page and the Tower Tabulator By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
