Description:
800 machines became A series models in 1959, but retained the 8 SN prefix. The 8 prefix A models have Visomatic cover trim. The body is flat smooth crinkle. Some late 8 prefix A models and then A models have painted bodywork. There are currently (7.23.25) no 1957-58 800 series machines on the TWDB.
Few typewriters are easier to service and adjust than an R.C. Allen. The rear cover and side panels are one piece and come off with two screws. The carriage side covers and tab rack covers are a snap as well. Time to adjust? The motion is easy to access on the sides, and the escapement adjustments are a breeze.
Additionally, the paint holds up well and cleans up easily with soap and water. The rubber was obviously of high quality, as I've yet to see one that wasn't usable. The margin setup again shows the power of Royal.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the R.C. Allen VisOmatic A on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the R.C. Allen Serial Number page and the R.C. Allen VisOmatic A By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
