Description:
antique store guy called ....
Wooden case is tattered and split and three links are missing in the typebar set-up; they’ll be easy to replicate with wire. Note the missing +/=. Q, and W. How the heck something deep inside such a sturdy machine could just go missing, I can’t figure out, though it might be related to all those crayon scribbles on the ribbon cover.
Update: Fixed those typebar links with thin, strong wire. Now the whole thing is cleaned up and works as well as you expect for an Olympia, that is; very well indeed. That missing paper guide/card holder on the right side is no problem at all. I like this one.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
