1960 Olympia SM2 Serial # 1578654 1960 Olympia SM2 typewriter, Serial # 1578654 Olivier LAURENT's 1960 Olympia SM2 typewriter. 2026-09-25 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Olivier LAURENT: 1960 Olympia SM2 Serial # 1578654 A typewriter purchased from an online store.
At first glance, it appeared to be complete and in decent condition, but it was very dirty. Some letter bars were jammed in the carriage. It was essential to take it apart and clean it.
Its typeface: Elite Standard 11 CPI.
The product photo was taken after it was restored to working order. All that remains is a slight adjustment to align the uppercase letters with the lowercase ones (the carriage’s upper stops can be adjusted without removing the casing).

Taking apart, examining, and restoring objects from the early 20th century—such as small clocks, calculators, typewriters, and radios—is a great pleasure for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM2 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM2 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
