195x Underwood 22 Serial # xxxxxx 195x Underwood 22 typewriter, Serial # xxxxxx fausto tomesani's 195x Underwood 22 typewriter. 2024-01-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of fausto tomesani: 195x Underwood 22 Serial # xxxxxx This is an Underwood 22 in his plastic case.
This typewriter intrigued me for some time.
The colour is the same of the Olivetti typewriters.
So it seems to be the usual Underwood typewriter based on a Olivetti model, but I didn’t find any Olivetti model similar to this.
And also I didn’t find any information on the web about the Underwood 22.
After some research, in the end I found that this typewriter is not based on a Olivetti model but on an Antares model, the Compact 16.
Antares was an Italian typewriter manufacturer, built by the company “Pozzi SpA” from 1954 to beginning of ’80 years.
But I found it strange because Underwood merged in Olivetti in 1963, and it’s strange that in the ’80 years Underwood was selling an Antares typewriter.
But also Antares was acquired by Olivetti around ‘80 years.
So probably this Underwood 22 was a portable typewriter based on an Antares model, when both Antares and Underwood were already part of Olivetti group.
It seems complicated, but Olivetti acquired almost all Italian typewriter companies, so it’s not so strange.

I also have a YouTube channel featuring these typewriters.
The pictures are made by my wife who is a photographer. Her name is Milena.
This gallery is managed by her,
So if you like the pictures don't thank me but her.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 22 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 22 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
