195x Juwel Rapid 55 Serial # K 055384 195x Juwel Rapid 55 typewriter, Serial # K 055384 Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp's 195x Juwel Rapid 55 typewriter. 2021-10-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp: 195x Juwel Rapid 55 Serial # K 055384 No, it´s not an example of the early Olympia SM Series, but the silhouette of this Juwel Rapid 55 truly has some resamblance to it, and I think not accidental.
Juwel had produced theire Typewriters long unchanged through the decades, but so the appearance had stuck with a design that was more related to those of the pre WWII-Era. When they decided to change that, they came up with the Rapid 55, presumably to profit from the fame of the big sister Olympia, and to safe money for a own costly design process that was maybe not effortable to that time anymore.

So here it is, a Rapid 55 with Spanish Keyboard that looks barely used. I don´t have other, earlier Versions to compare, but those who have will presumably find mechanical similarities to other Juwel´s. I hope no Spanish guy had bin fooled a Rapid for an SM back then, but if he had, he truly got a rapid and well build typewriter anyway.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Juwel Rapid 55 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Juwel Serial Number page and the Juwel Rapid 55 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
