1958 Smith Corona Silent Super Serial # 5T 660471X 1958 Smith Corona Silent Super typewriter, Serial # 5T 660471X GK Mandigo's 1958 Smith Corona Silent Super typewriter. 2025-06-05 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of GK Mandigo: 1958 Smith Corona Silent Super Serial # 5T 660471X Nickname "Irene"
Irene was the name of the young woman who purchased this machine new in 1958 to go to college and who kept it and cared for it until her passing in 2014. Only recently did her son sell the machine to me on eBay, something that he said he put off because he was in no hurry to let it go. She clearly cared for the machine a great deal. Other than an occasional skip after typing a quotation mark and needing a light cleaning for dust, this machine has no faults. Elite typeface and extended keyboard that includes a one digit and an exclamation point as indicated by the X at the end of the serial number. Desert sand color crinkle body and white keys.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. I currently have 9 machines, 2 ultraportables (a Hermes Baby Spanish keyboard and Hermes Rocket), 4 medium portables (an SM3, an S/C Silent and Silent Super and a Hermes 3000), and 3 desk standards (an SG1, Royal HH and S/C Super Speed). My machines range from 1947 to 1968 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I look forward to putting together my galleries for all 9 machines. I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
