Description:
A few things had happened with this Rooy portable after it´s receival. Besides a thorough dustling and oiling of the caselock mechanism, the drawband had to be renewed.
Pressumably the previous owner had put a household rubberband at it´s behalf, to produce at least some motion. Of course this wasn´t a sufficent solution in the sense of a typewriter, so I replaced it with a nylon string, as I wanted to have a lightweight, small and durable option, that fits to the time and ambitioned concept of the Rooy Portable.
One thing I solved only recently, were some unique felt-tip remains, Mr. Ted Munk once refered to as "kid doodles". :-)
"KID DOODLES" ?!?!
I am a very patient being, but it stops when collectible typewriters are used as some "imaginative spacehip device" while being (almost) permanently signed with a felt-tip.
But I never resigned to that fact, knewing that I will solve this problem one day. And recently I found a way to remove this scribbles, through the use of alcohol spirits and a very short "brush" with ultra-short 'n' stiff bristles. After some time of adding the alcohol, I used the brush to massage the residues out of the wrinkle paint.
It looks much better now, and doesn´t disturb the eye while watching the Rooy. The procedure has left some little blank spots over the keyboard, but I prefere it anytime.
The two things that still can be done one time, is to replace the hardened rubberparts of the lid and feet, and to find a inkribbon to make a typesample.
BTW: This modell can be found on French auction sites much more often than in Germany or a America I guess, but almost always with an AZERTY layout.
So it is the layout that defines the rarety, in this case.
PS: The serial number on this one seems to be a little of track.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Rooy portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Rooy Serial Number page and the Rooy portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
