Description:
Nickname "Otto"
Purchased on Etsy. Currently my favorite machine. Every positive thing that is said about Olympia machines is true, the precision construction and great typing action on this machine is top notch. This is a Pica 10-pitch machine which has become my preferred typeface as my aging eyes struggle a bit to read Elite. When I received this machine the backspace key had broken which locked up the carriage requiring a repair by the famous San Diego typewriter whisperer, Mitchell Vassiliou. I like to service my typewriters myself, but when something is more that I can handle, Mitchell is the person I turn to.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. I currently have 9 machines, 2 ultraportables (a Hermes Baby Spanish keyboard and Hermes Rocket), 4 medium portables (an SM3, an S/C Silent and Silent Super and a Hermes 3000), and 3 desk standards (an SG1, Royal HH and S/C Super Speed). My machines range from 1947 to 1968 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I look forward to putting together my galleries for all 9 machines. I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
