Description:
This chocolate brown SM3 from 1958 carries pica elite ITALIC typeface and is in mint condition and has been fully refurbished (new platen too) by Darwin Raymond of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It is closely related to my white SM3 I've posted, serial #1155587 Double Gothic typeface, in that we believe these two machines were made the same week, possibly the same day, shipped in the same shipment through NYC ending up here in Salt Lake City in 1958. Through a remarkable stroke of luck, these two machines were reunited in 2020 during the early part of the COVID pandemic when I bought this machine from its original owner's family. It wasn't until I got this SM3 home that I realized the serial numbers were only 63 machines apart. Back in 1958 Olympia was churning out 10,000 typewriters a month, with only a fraction of that output destined for the US market.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
