Description:
Pica type
Modified US keyboard
Discovered in dirty but very usable shape in Centreville, MI for a mere $5.
Such a beautiful machine, and good to use, too. Mine is prone to shadowing, but I think it just requires the right touch. One interesting thing about Imperial 3, 5, and 7 is that they have 46 keys, 4 more than some American portables. Mine still lacks a 1 key though!

I started collecting typewriters in 2006, but what started it all was using my mother's Brother Student-Riter XL1 in 2004. The next year I received my grandma's Smith-Corona Silent, which was enough to hold me over for a little while but eventually led to an obsession with manual portable typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Imperial De Luxe 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Imperial Serial Number page and the Imperial De Luxe 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
