Description:
A Royal Quiet De Luxe with Dvorak Keyboard.
Found on a goodwill auction. I had been wanting to find a manual typewriter with a Dvorak keyboard layout, and I was lucky to have found this auction, as it was only labeled as having a non-standard layout.
With the serial number and design, I'm pretty sure that it was made in 1957, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I use Dvorak on my computer, so it was an easy shift to have it on the typewriter (aside from a few punctuation marks arranged differently than on the Dvorak layout for computer...and the different arrangement of the numbers).
I think the serial number starts with a 'D', but it could possibly be an 'O' as well. I'm not sure if maybe Royal did a small batch of Dvorak typewriters, or if this was a custom order.

A writer and beginner collector/restorer of typewriters. I'd always written a few pages a day, been sort of a habit for a number of years now, and I saw a few typewriters in movies and loved the sound they made, so I decided to buy one to see what it was like.
Ended up with a Olivetti Lettera 22, and after writing about a hundred pages with it, I was hooked.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Quiet De Luxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Quiet De Luxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
