Description:
I acquired this SM3 from the great @sk8rcruz, an inspirational member of this community.
I'd been chasing this very special OIympia-only typeface since I rediscovered the typewriter hobby, and an instance of "right-place-right-time" is how I came to find this SM3. I had an elementary school teacher who had handwriting eerily similar to this typeface. All these years later the similarity is still uncanny, as if his handwriting was directly inspired by this typeface.
It's in exceptional condition, and I believe I owe that to its previous owners. It has the decals "E J K" on its case, a monogram representing what is likely the machine's first owner.

I have been fascinated by the clockwork construction of typewriters since I was a child. I'd play with one at my dad's office in Manhattan on the days he'd take me to work. Decades later, I've rediscovered them and have fallen into the hobby of acquiring a modest collection.
I use typewriters mostly for leisure, but I do find that creative writing on a typewriter takes on a different flavor of its own. I also have found a great deal of pleasure in using these machines as a means of crafting expressive art.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
