Description:
A Hermes Ambassador.
There seems to be a number of different versions. This one seems to be somewhere in the middle. It has a prominent logo which is nice.
The machine itself is a total tank. It is large and heavy. It's a bit noisier than my 1963 Hermes 3000, but that one seems to be 50% sound-deadening material. It was well cared for so it worked soon as I changed the dry ribbon. The typeface is not particularly special, but it is overall a pretty special typewriter.

Acquired from a collector in Sparta, NJ, who had moved out of his parent's house, and his parents were down-sizing. He was involved in the selling, so it's not like his parent sold it out from under him. He is the same age as my son, so if he ever wanted to buy it back, I wouldn't mind.

Trying very hard to be more judicious in my acquisitions...
I like interesting typefaces. I like tinkering with my acquisitions to make them work.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes Ambassador on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes Ambassador By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
