Description:
As a teacher, I don't accept cash gifts from my students... but I *do* accept typewriters, like this one!
Some provenance accompanied the typewriter: It was purchased from the Islip Typewriter Company on January 12, 1970 for $54.50 minus $7.00 for a trade-in of a Remington Noiseless.
A page with the following note was also found:
"Dear Arthur,
This is the typewriter that you bought for me.....
I hope that you like it.............
It was expensive...... even
with the trade-in....... the type is nice
and small..... and it half spaces.... 35Ë
no new key is needed.......
I like it.... do you,,,,,,,,,,,,"

When I'm not teaching, I set wide margins and still run off the page.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 2000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 2000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
